PDI Trainee Licence Sponsorship (Pink Licence)
Earn while you learn, gain real in-car experience, and prepare for your ADI Part 3 exam under expert OrDIT supervision in Portsmouth.
What is a DVSA Trainee Licence?
A DVSA Trainee Licence (often called a "Pink Licence") allows a Potential Driving Instructor (PDI) to deliver paid driving lessons to the public for up to 6 months while preparing for their final Part 3 instructional ability exam.
It is designed to give you real-world experience behind the wheel with pupils before taking your practical teaching test. To hold a pink licence, the DVSA strictly requires you to be formally sponsored by a qualified OrDIT driving school manager.
DVSA Trainee Licence Prerequisites
Before you can apply to the DVSA for a Trainee Licence, you must meet the following official criteria:
- Passed your ADI Part 1 (Theory) and ADI Part 2 (Driving Ability) exams.
- Completed a minimum of 40 hours of official Part 3 training with a qualified OrDIT trainer, logged on an official ADI21T form.
- Applied for your licence within 6 months of completing your 40 hours of training.
- Be sponsored by a registered driving school manager who agrees to supervise your teaching.
Sponsorship Terms with Chris Deane ADI
To maintain the highest teaching standards across Portsmouth and protect both our pupils and trainees, sponsorship under my driving school operates under the following strict terms:
1. Extra Training Supervision Option Only
Due to my busy schedule with learners and instructor trainees, I only sponsor PDIs under the DVSA "Extra Training Option". This requires a further 20 hours of mandatory in-car coaching/supervision during your 6-month licence period.
2. Your Own Tuition Vehicle
A tuition vehicle is not supplied. You must provide your own suitable, roadworthy vehicle for teaching pupils.
3. Dual Controls Fitted
Your vehicle must be fitted with professionally installed dual controls and appropriate driving tuition insurance before delivering any paid lessons.
4. Driving School Banner & Advertising
You may only deliver lessons under my driving school banner and branding approved by me. You are strictly prohibited from advertising yourself as a fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
