Where Real Coaching Replaces Rote Learning

The ADI Part 3 exam tests your ability to teach real pupils effectively. A DVSA examiner sits in the back of your car while you deliver a 1-hour real-life lesson to a real pupil (or a mock pupil during training).

You are assessed across 17 competence areas grouped into three core categories: Lesson Planning, Risk Management, and Teaching & Learning Strategies. Generic "scripted" instruction fails here. To pass, you must understand how to adapt your style dynamically to suit the pupil in front of you.

The 3 Core Categories Assessed in Part 3

1. Lesson Planning

Setting clear, realistic lesson goals matched to the pupil's ability level and adapting the plan if unexpected errors occur.

2. Risk Management

Maintaining physical and verbal safety at all times, ensuring the pupil takes age-appropriate responsibility for vehicle safety.

3. Teaching Strategies

Using active listening, effective questioning, constructive feedback, and client-centred coaching instead of endless lecturing.

PDI Trainee Licence (Pink Licence) Sponsorship

Once you complete 40 hours of structured Part 3 training, you have the option to apply for a DVSA Trainee Licence (Pink Licence).

  • Earn While You Learn: Teach real paying pupils for up to 6 months before taking your Part 3 exam.
  • Required Supervision: Receive the mandatory 20 hours of additional OrDIT supervision while teaching on your licence.
  • Local Franchise Opportunities: Option to join Chris Deane ADI on a flexible, supported trainee franchise in Portsmouth.
