Why Train with an OrDIT-Registered Coach?

Deciding to train as a driving instructor is an exciting life step, but finding the right trainer is critical to your success. Many large national franchises sell expensive courses with little personalised support, leaving trainees struggling with the practical instructional test.

As an Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers (OrDIT) registered coach and Grade A ADI, I provide dedicated, 1-to-1 mentoring tailored to how you learn. Before You Begin: DVSA Prerequisites

Before you can officially register for your Part 1 theory exam, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) requires all prospective instructors to meet basic eligibility criteria and obtain a Personal Reference Number (PRN).

⚠️ Important Note Regarding DBS Checks:

You must complete an enhanced DVSA-specific Criminal Record (DBS) Check to get your PRN.

Please note: Even if you already hold an enhanced DBS check through the Armed Forces, Emergency Services, or Teaching, the DVSA will not accept it. You must complete a new check specifically through the DVSA portal.

Already Qualified? Standards Check & Remedial Coaching

Are you an existing ADI preparing for a Standards Check, or do you need Remedial Training after a disappointing result?

Driving Instructor Training FAQs

Everything you need to know about qualifying as an ADI with Chris Deane in Portsmouth.

❓ How long does it take to become a driving instructor? ▼
Most trainees qualify within 6 to 12 months, depending on how much time you can dedicate each week. Because our training is delivered 1-to-1 on a flexible schedule, you can progress at whatever pace suits your current work and personal commitments.
❓ Do I need any teaching qualifications or experience? ▼
No prior teaching experience is required! As long as you have held a full UK driving licence for at least 3 years, hold fewer than 6 penalty points, and pass the DVSA enhanced DBS check, we teach you all the coaching skills needed to succeed.
❓ Can I earn money while I am training? ▼
Yes! Once you pass Part 1 and Part 2, and complete 40 hours of Part 3 training, you can apply for a DVSA Trainee Licence (Pink Licence). This allows you to teach real paying pupils for up to 6 months before taking your Part 3 exam.
❓ What is the difference between an OrDIT trainer and a standard ADI? ▼
OrDIT (Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers) trainers are re-assessed by the DVSA specifically on their ability to train instructors, not just learner drivers. Chris Deane is a Grade A OrDIT trainer with DVSA-inspected premises, record keeping, and training materials.
❓ Are DVSA test fees included in the course packages? ▼
No, official DVSA exam booking fees (Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3) are paid directly to the DVSA via GOV.UK and are separate from our tuition fees.
