1. The Importance of Training with a Grade A ADI
When you invest your hard-earned money into a career change, the quality of your trainer dictates your success. The DVSA regularly assesses all driving instructors and grades them based on performance:
- Grade A (51–51 points): Demonstrates a high standard of instruction and client-centred coaching. Fewer than 30% of UK instructors achieve this top grade.
- Grade B (33–42 points): Satisfactory standard, but with areas requiring improvement.
- Ungraded / Fail: Unsatisfactory performance subject to re-assessment.
🚩 Why an Unlisted Grade Can Be a Red Flag
Many large national franchises employ trainers who hide or refuse to publish their DVSA grade. If a trainer is not transparent about their grading or omits it from their advertising, ask yourself: Why?

I am registered on the official DVSA Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers (OrDIT). Joining OrDIT is voluntary, but it holds trainers to a strict Code of Practice and regular DVSA re-evaluations.
Not All OrDIT Trainers Meet the Same Criteria
Many OrDIT trainers are only accredited for basic roadside coaching. My training setup is fully accredited across all DVSA OrDIT inspection categories:
- Inspected Premises: Dedicated indoor classroom facilities providing a comfortable, quiet environment for Part 1 theory and Part 3 debriefs—not just sitting in a parked car on a rainy street corner.
- Audited Record Keeping: Every hour of training you complete is formally logged and tracked against your personal syllabus so you can clearly measure your progress toward test readiness.
- DVSA-Inspected Training Materials: All study aids, visual diagrams, and coaching resources are inspected and approved by the DVSA to ensure complete alignment with current marking criteria.
