Driving Tuition Terms & Conditions

Please read these terms and conditions carefully before commencing driving tuition with Chris Deane ADI in Portsmouth & Hampshire.

1. Driving Licence & Fitness to Drive

• Valid UK Driving Licence: You must hold a valid UK Provisional or Full Driving Licence and present it to your instructor prior to or on your first lesson.
• Eyesight Check: You must be able to read a standard UK vehicle number plate from a distance of 20.5 metres (67 feet), with glasses or contact lenses if worn.
• Fit for Driving Policy: You must ensure you are fit to drive at all times. If your instructor suspects you are under the influence of alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription drugs that impair driving ability, the lesson will be cancelled immediately and charged in full.
• Medical Conditions: You must inform your instructor immediately of any medical condition, physical impairment, or change in health that may affect your legal entitlement to hold a driving licence.

2. Lesson Cancellations & Notice Periods

To maintain a fair schedule for all pupils, strict cancellation notice periods apply:

• 48-Hour Cancellation Rule: You must give at least 48 hours' notice if you wish to cancel or reschedule a driving lesson without charge.
• Late Cancellations: Any lesson cancelled with less than 48 hours' notice (for any reason) will be charged in full or deducted from your block booking balance.
• Instructor Cancellations: If your instructor needs to cancel a lesson due to mechanical breakdown, illness, severe weather, or DVSA test schedule changes, your lesson will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time without financial penalty.

3. Payments, Rates & Block Booking Refunds

• Payment Timing: Pay-as-you-go driving lessons must be paid in advance via bank transfer or cash at the start of the lesson.
• Block Booking Payment: Block booking discounts require full payment in advance prior to the first lesson of that block.
• Block Booking Expiry: All prepaid block bookings are valid for 6 months from the date of purchase. Any unused hours after 6 months are non-refundable and forfeited.
• Partial Refund Recalculation: If you request a refund for an unused portion of a block booking prior to expiry, completed hours will be recalculated at the standard hourly rate (forfeiting the block discount) before the remaining balance is refunded.

4. DVSA Practical Driving Tests

• Booking Test Dates: You must consult and obtain confirmation from your instructor before booking a practical test date to ensure vehicle and instructor availability.
• Vehicle Withholding Rights: Your instructor reserves the right to withhold the tuition vehicle for a practical test if, in the instructor's professional opinion, your driving standard does not meet safe DVSA test criteria.
• Test Cancellations by DVSA: The instructor cannot be held financially responsible for practical driving tests cancelled or rescheduled by the DVSA due to examiner illness, severe weather, or test centre issues. Test hire fees will still apply if the instructor accompanies you to the test centre.

5. Vehicle Damage & Personal Belongings

• Insurance Coverage: The tuition vehicle is fully insured for driving instruction and practical tests with a licensed DVSA instructor present.
• Reckless Damage / Intentional Faults: Pupils are not liable for accidental minor damage during normal instruction. However, if damage is caused deliberately or due to reckless disregard of explicit instructor commands, the pupil may be held liable for repair costs or insurance excess.
• Personal Property: Your instructor accepts no liability for personal property left inside or damaged within the tuition vehicle.

6. Data Protection & Total Drive App

Your personal information (name, contact details, driving licence number, and lesson progress) is kept strictly confidential in accordance with UK GDPR laws.

Information is stored securely within our scheduling software (such as the Total Drive app) solely for diary management, progress tracking, and booking communications. Your data will never be sold or shared with third parties.
